The Physical Geography and Climatology Teaching and Research Area deals with theoretical and applied aspects of the physical environment and especially climatology in teaching and research.

The primary research topics are climatological data-driven investigations as well as modeling approaches regarding human impacts in and on climate systems, especially in connection with climate change.

Hereby, the main focus lies on the micrometeorological investigation of energy and matter fluxes as well as research questions concerning the climatology of plant stands. In addition to fundamental research, many projects are interdisciplinary, applied and designed for cooperation with planning and practice partners.
