CIDY – City Center Dynamics Analysis

Current challenges for urban development planning require new tools for supporting decisions. CIDY aims to lay the foundations for a simulation tool for mapping inner-city dynamics on the basis of data on Aachen's inner city. For this purpose, geostatistical analyses will be used to analyze the interrelationships of key success factors for inner cities (e.g. accessibility, mix of uses, turnover, vacancy). The focus will be on pedestrian traffic flows and the related choice of activities, destinations and routes of visitors at the city center.

As a proof-of-concept, CIDY will also develop a simplified model tool for a section of Aachen's city center. CIDY plays an important part for interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening the profile of the new RWTH Growth Area "Built and Lived Environment" (BLE).
